of 480 homes subdivision next to Ihumatao Village, Mangere is Auckland’s oldest settlement and the historic and archeologically significant
The families have resided in Ihumaatao for many generations. Their whakapapa links to the whenua include Ngati Mahuta, Te Ahiwaru, Waikato-Tainui, Te Akitai and Te Waiohua. They believe that having a Special Housing Area (SHA) in Ihumaatao will not contribute to makingTaamaki a liveable city, but destroy one of the few significant and unique historical, cultural, spiritual, social and environmental spaces we have left in Auckland.
